Best Diesel Heaters 2026: 10 Ranked, and Why the kW Claims Don't Add Up

It takes the top spot on the weight of 255 ratings rather than on the kW figure. That 4.2 average hides a split: 62 five-star scores against 14 in the one and two-star bands, the widest spread in the top half of this list. Rating volume matters more than a headline wattage you cannot verify.

In practice, the engineering is aimed at cold, thin air. A ceramic igniter heats and vaporises the fuel for combustion, the listing quotes an average 0.16-0.24 litres per hour, and a high-altitude thermostat is claimed to hold a constant temperature above 5,500 m without manual adjustment. Three control routes are listed: the 'Booyood' app over Bluetooth, the LCD panel, and a separate remote. The body measures 47 x 40.5 x 27 cm and weighs 5.8 kg.

The catch is output. This is a 2 kW unit at £139.99, and the listing states no wattage at all, so there is nothing to check the 2 kW claim against. If you need a 5kw diesel heater for a large van or a garage, this is not it — look at the £69.69 or £71.99 units instead.

Second place goes to the unit that illustrates the kW problem most clearly. It is sold as 5KW and states an item size of 15.3 x 5.7 x 5.7 inches. The EVGTTI further down this list is sold as 8KW and quotes exactly the same 15.3 x 5.7 x 5.7 inches. The same casing is being credited with two different outputs, and neither listing gives a wattage figure to settle it.

What you get in the box is broad. Packing includes the air heater, a silencer, an LCD thermostat, a remote control, a 10 L tank, two vents, two air outlet pipes, intake and exhaust pipes, an oil pump, a white oil pipe and a fixed plate. Packed weight is 10 kg. The heater is rated to work from -40°C to +50°C, and the oil pump from -40°C to +40°C.

However, the paperwork disagrees with itself. The model number reads TSD-2, a '2' where the title says 5 KW. Meanwhile 6 of the 272 ratings are one-star and 4 are two-star, so roughly one buyer in 27 was unhappy enough to say so. If you need a heater whose documentation matches a stated output, this listing gives three different answers.

This listing cannot decide what it is. The title says 5KW-8KW, the first bullet says 'Heater power: 8KW', and the quoted fuel consumption of 0.1-0.64 L/hour is the widest band in this list — a 6.4x spread between its own floor and ceiling. Even so, it sits third because 196 ratings average 4.3 and it holds the number one position in Amazon's Car Ignition & Heating Systems category.

The kit is aimed at vehicles: cars, buses, RVs, trucks and engineering vehicles. It ships with a remote control and a panel, either of which can set temperature in advance so the cab is warm before you get in. The listing describes blower speed control to cut noise, and the unit weighs 6.36 kg in a red case.

That said, 8 of the 196 ratings are one-star and 2 are two-star. And if you are shopping for a diesel heater for campervan use, watch the fuel band above all else: at the top end this quotes 0.64 L/h, against 0.53 L/h on the LF Bros 5 kW unit. That is the difference between a weekend away and a weekend away with a spare can.

By contrast with the single-unit heaters above, this is a full split kit, and it is the most-reviewed product here: 330 ratings at 4.2. Its own histogram shows 11 one-star scores against 68 five-star ones, the third-highest complaint count in this top ten — and that count sits inside the biggest sample, which is the fairest way to read it.

In practice the build is the selling point. The combustion chamber, the base and the heat-dissipating scale are all sand-blasted aluminium, integrally formed, which the listing links to uniform heat dissipation. The ECU is described as frequency-converting, controlling oil pump injection frequency and intake air speed. A muffler is included, along with the full mounting kit and all screws. However, the same 5KW-8KW range appears again and this diesel air heater carries no wattage figure either. It also quotes no efficiency percentage. If you want one number you can write on an insurance form, buy elsewhere. This one is for buyers who want the complete kit and accept the label is vague.

This is the one listing in the top five where the numbers line up. In theory, 5 kW is 5,000 watts — and the spec sheet says exactly that: 'Wattage: 5000 watts'. It is also the best-rated product here at 4.9 from 24 ratings, with no score below four stars anywhere in its histogram. The sample is small, and it is fair to say so.

The claimed output is 4700-17000 BTU with fuel consumption of 0.18-0.53 L/h and a working range of -40°C to 40°C. The T3 LCD display adds a timer that schedules a start from 1 to 24 hours ahead. Two modes are offered: power mode holds a set power, temperature mode heats to a set temperature and then drops to minimum. Body dimensions are 37.8 x 15 x 14.1 cm and weight is 12 kg.

The maximum temperature setting is listed as 96.8 °F, which is 36 °C. Anyone shopping for an 8kw diesel heater should ask why a unit at that output tops out at a temperature a warm room would beat.

In practice, the appeal is the dual power input. It takes 12/24 V DC from a vehicle and 110-240 V AC from a mains socket, switching between them automatically, which means it can run in a workshop as well as a van. Fuel consumption is quoted at 0.11-0.48 L/h, heating efficiency at ≥90%, and a 140 mm base bracket is included to reduce exhaust blockage. Weight is 10.3 kg and the case is yellow.

That said, 9 of the 77 ratings are one-star and 4 are two-star — roughly one in six. The same brand's toolbox model below claims a 38% combustion-efficiency gain from a reinforced aluminium heat exchanger, while this listing stops at ≥90% efficiency, and neither gives a wattage figure. Buy it for the mains socket. Do not buy it because a page says 8 kW.

This is the lowest-rated product in the top ten: 3.9 from 105 ratings, with 19 one-star scores. That is the highest one-star count anywhere on this page, in a sample of only 105. Nearly one buyer in five gave it the lowest mark available.

The design is the interesting part. Either way, check which Sunster you are buying: they are two separate listings, and one of them is rated a full half-star lower.

The rating is strong on paper: 4.7 from 16 ratings, 83% of them five-star, with nothing below three stars. As a result, that average rests on the thinnest sample in this top ten. The product first appeared on Amazon in January 2025, the newest listing here, and it ranks 13,879 in Automotive against 780 for the Jacgood. Even so, the 8 kW figure is the one to question. At £63.99 it undercuts every claimed 5 kW unit on this page, which is the wrong way round for a heater sold as the more powerful of the two. Buy it if an all-in-one at a low price is the priority. Do not buy it expecting a verified 8 kW of heat.
