The ASUS ZenWiFi XD4 Plus 3-pack takes ninth place in our mesh WiFi ranking. ASUS has a strong reputation with enthusiasts for its router firmware — deep parental controls, guest networks and AiProtection security — and this brings that in a small, unobtrusive three-pack at GBP 149.98. For someone who wants more network control than eero's stripped-back app allows, ASUS is the brand that offers it, and the firmware is the genuine reason to consider it.
Two things hold it back, and a third is a warning. First, the evidence: 3.9 stars on just 51 ratings is both a low average and a thin sample, and its UK reviews in particular skew negative, with repeated reports of nodes dropping offline — the breakdown here carries 10 per cent one-star. Second, its own coverage claim will not stay still: the spec table says 443 square metres while the listing quotes 1,400 square metres elsewhere, a threefold spread that tells you plainly to trust neither. Third, small listing slips: it names the operating system as "RouterOS", which is MikroTik's software, not the ASUSWRT this actually runs, and lists only WPA2 security where rivals here offer WPA3. As an AX1800 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 system, its speed name is again the sum of its bands. Everything here comes from the Amazon listing rather than our own testing.

What is good about the ASUS ZenWiFi XD4 Plus?
Its software. ASUS gives you deeper network control than most mesh systems — genuine parental controls, guest networks and AiProtection security — in compact units that suit smaller homes. If you want to manage your network in detail rather than just leave it alone, ASUS is the brand for it.
Why does it rank ninth?
On the evidence. At 3.9 stars on only 51 ratings it is both low-rated and thinly proven, and its UK reviews in particular report nodes dropping offline. The breakdown carries 10 per cent one-star. At the same price the TP-Link Deco X10 has vastly more reviews and a higher rating.
How much does it actually cover?
The listing cannot decide: the spec table says 443 square metres, but it quotes 1,400 square metres elsewhere, a threefold difference. Both are lab figures; trust neither and assume a normal three-unit reach through real walls.
What operating system does it run?
ASUSWRT, ASUS's own firmware. The spec table's "RouterOS" entry is wrong — RouterOS is MikroTik's software — and is a catalogue error, not what the hardware runs.
Does it support WPA3?
The listing only names WPA2 security, where several rivals here list WPA3. ASUS hardware often supports WPA3 in firmware, but the listing does not state it, so we report what is published.
Should I buy it over a TP-Link?
Only if you specifically want ASUS's advanced controls and will accept the low rating and thin, UK-negative reviews. For a safer, better-proven system at the same price, the TP-Link Deco X10 is the stronger buy.
